Lewis Hamilton has qualified on pole position for Sunday's Malaysian Grand Prix.
The former world champion was a tenth of a second faster than McLaren teammate Jenson Buton as the British team recorded back to back 1-2's.
Michael Schumacher qualified in third for Mercedes while Mark Webber joins him on the second row of the grid for Red Bull.
Webber's colleague and reigning champion Sebastian Vettel was again off the pace as he could only place fifth.
Returning Finnish driver Kimi Raikkonen originally sat in between the Red Bull duo but a grid penalty has pushed the Lotus Renault driver back to tenth.
