Jenson Button: 'McLaren doing a great job'

Jenson Button claims that McLaren-Honda are making progress despite failing to score a point so far in 2015.

Jenson Button has insisted that McLaren-Honda is doing a great job of developing the car 'with what they have'.

The Woking-based outfit rekindled its famous partnership with the Japanese engine manufacturer, but has failed to score a point so far in the 2015 season.

However, Button is adamant that the constructor is making progress.

He told F1i: "I've worked with Honda for many years and I've worked with McLaren for many years but not all together, so I was very excited about what could possibly happen. And it has been a really exciting year; we started off with no pace whatsoever at the start and have improved every race.

"I think it's really exciting for everyone that's involved to see the progress that we make every time that we step in to the car.

"Nobody can ask for any more. You're never going to win the first race with a new manufacturer, it just does not happen these days. Formula One is so competitive and if we did that, what would it say about Red Bull, Mercedes and Ferrari? So it's a very competitive sport right now and I think we're doing a great job with what we have."

McLaren's last win with a Honda engine came at the 1993 Australian Grand Prix, which was also Ayrton Senna's last victory in Formula 1.
