Lewis Hamilton gave himself the best chance of bouncing back from a disappointing third-place finish at the Monaco Grand Prix by securing pole position at this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix.
The Mercedes driver dominated qualifying from start to finish in Montreal, finishing ahead of teammate Nico Rosberg and Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen with a time of 1:14.393.
Fernando Alonso only just scraped into Q2 and it was no surprise to see his McLaren manage just 14th place.
Sebastian Vettel, who finished second in the last race in Monaco and has qualified in the top three every year in Canada since 2008, was a surprise casualty in Q1 as Ferrari struggled with reliability issues.
Alonso's McLaren teammate Jenson Button did not take part because his McLaren is also suffering with reliability problems.
