France's sports minister David Douillet has said that there is a possibility of Formula 1 racing returning to the country.
The minister claims that he has spoken with F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone, who is open to the possibility of sharing an annual date between France and Belgium.
Douillet also said that the decision must now be made since France has three drivers - Jean-Eric Vergne, Charles Pic and Romain Grosjean - competing in the Drivers Championship.
"I met Bernie Ecclestone, he is totally willing to share just what Formula 1 Grand Prix between Belgium and France," Douillet told TF1.
"It has been mobilized and motivated by local governments struggling to finance this type of event. The cost will be divided by the two as we will share it with Belgium.
"We have three new French drivers in Formula 1 and so we have to have a Grand Prix de France. That is my job."
France has not hosted a grand prix since Alain Prost was victorious on the Paul Ricard circuit in 1990.
