Former European captain Sam Torrance has revealed that he believes the manner in which the USA lost the Ryder Cup at Medinah should not give Tom Watson's team extra motivation.
Europe retained the trophy two years ago despite being 10-6 behind ahead of the final day, and Torrance has suggested that such a disappointing result for the Americans could harm their chances at Gleneagles.
"If it was me I don't think that would spur me on," Torrance told reporters. "I would think that would put a lot of doubts in my head, the fact that you're four points clear at home and you lose.
"I don't know how that would spur you on, it's almost more [deflating]."
Torrance is serving as one of Paul McGinley's vice captains at Gleneagles.
