Charley Hoffman has claimed that adopting an aggressive approach was key as he made an impressive start to The Masters.
A five-under-par 67 was enough to hand the 38-year-old a tie for the lead for most of the day before Jordan Spieth's excellent round, and Hoffman believes that the conditions early on allowed him to play attacking golf.
"When the course was damp like it was today, you can be aggressive to some of those pins towards the back of the green," the American told reporters.
"I had the ability to do that this morning and I assumed it wouldn't get too firm this afternoon or this week with the humidity the way it is.
"I knew that I could be aggressive today and put the ball in the right spot. The holes where I did it I was able to attack and the holes I didn't' I was able to get the ball back in position which is important out here."
Hoffman has played at Augusta just once before, finishing in a tie for 27th in 2011.
