Scottie Scheffler claims yet another notable crown with victory at the Olympic Games, edging out Great Britain's Tommy Fleetwood into the silver-medal position.

Tommy Fleetwood has agonisingly missed out on a gold medal at the Olympic Games, seeing Scottie Scheffler snatch gold in Paris on Sunday.

Having contended at the top of the leaderboard throughout the competition at Le Golf National, the British representative would have bee confident of achieving the biggest crown of his career.

However, the 33-year-old was ultimately edged out by world number Scheffler who shot an incredible final-round 62 to win by one shot.

The American made nine birdies, including four in a row between holes 14 and 17, and it ultimately made the difference as Fleetwood failed to handled the growing pressure during the closing stages.

A heavy chip on 17 led to him making bogey, and there was plenty of adrenaline in his approach shot to 18, where he left himself with a difficult up and down even to secure silver.

Failing to hole his subsequent chip saw Scheffler crowned as the gold-medal winner before Fleetwood holed out from around eight feet to finish as runner-up.

Who claimed bronze?

There were several contenders for bronze, including Jon Rahm and Xander Schauffele who, like Fleetwood, had began the day firmly in contention for victory.

Instead, the pair endured poor final rounds, shooting 70 and 73 respectively to only finish in a share of fifth and ninth place respectively.

Japan's Hideki Matsuyama would claim the bronze, hitting a faultless final-round 65 to leave home favourite Victor Perez one shot adrift of the medal positions.

Rory McIlroy had to settle for fifth, despite a second successive round of 66, while Sweden's Ludvig Aberg could only place 18th.
