Charley Hoffman leads the Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston after the second round following his run of eight birdies in 14 holes.

Charley Hoffman has hit an impressive eight-under-par score of 63 to lead the Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston after the second round on Saturday.

The 2010 champion made eight birdies in the first 14 holes on his way to building a three-shot lead over Brendon de Jonge of Zimbabwe.

Rickie Fowler (67) and British Open champion Zach Johnson (65) were another shot behind. England's Luke Donald and Ian Poulter were two off the round-one lead but fell to tied-18th and tied-21st respectively.

Masters and US Open champion Jordan Spieth shot 74 and missed the cut, meaning he missed out in consecutive events for the first time in his career. The 22-year-old also fell short at The Barclays last week.

Rory McIlroy shot 74 and is tied for 59th, while Scotland's Russell Knox shot 65 to climb up to joint seventh.
