Shane Lowry: 'I feel comfortable at Oakmont'

US Open leader Shane Lowry says that he feels "comfortable" at Oakmont as he bids to win his first Major crown.

Shane Lowry has admitted that being at the top of a major leaderboard is "where you want to be" after he established a two-shot advantage at the US Open.

The Irishman still has four holes to play of his third round after darkness set in on Saturday night but after moving clear of Andrew Landry and the chasing pack, the world number 41 says that he is "comfortable" with the position that he finds himself in ahead of his remaining 22 holes.

The 29-year-old is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "I'm glad we didn't have to play another four holes as I was getting tired but I'm really looking forward to getting out there on Sunday.

"I've never been in this position but this is where you want to be. My game is good and I feel very comfortable out there."

Lowry has never finished higher than ninth place at a major tournament, a position he has achieved at both the 2014 Open Championship and 2015 US Open.
