Suzuki boss Davide Brivio has insisted that the team didn't want to delay their return to MotoGP any longer, despite the new rule changes coming into force in 2016.
After the 2015 season, Bridgestone will replace Michelin as tyre supplier and a standard ECU system will be introduced, meaning that Suzuki will need to make changes just one year after returning.
"If you remember our plan was [originally] to come back in 2014," Crash.net quotes Brivio as saying. "Then we delay one more year and we couldn't delay forever.
"You come back and play with the current rules and with everyone involved you get prepared for the future."
Suzuki have introduced a new GSX-RR, which contains an inline four-cylinder engine configuration.
