Ian Wright denied Star Wars role

Arsenal legend Ian Wright reveals that he was denied the chance to appear in a new Star Wars film because he was too short for the role.

He may have broken Arsenal's goalscoring record once upon a time, but Ian Wright has said that he came up short in his bid to appear in a new Star Wars film.

The legendary striker has revealed that he wanted the role of a stormtrooper in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, but was denied due to a height restriction.

The 51-year-old, thought to be around 5'9, told BBC Sport: "I wanted to be a stormtrooper in Star Wars but you have to be 5ft 11in and I was too short. Two of my friends got to do it."

The seventh installment of the sci-fi franchise, which was directed by JJ Abrams, is slated for release in December of next year.

Gunners legend Wright became the club's record goalscorer in 1997, but has since seen his feat eclipsed by Thierry Henry.
