Fabian Delph admits that he will miss the birth of his child if it means helping Aston Villa stay in the Premier League.

Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph has admitted that he has come to an agreement with his girlfriend Natalie that he could miss the birth of his first child.

The 23-year-old's other half is expected to go into labour next month, but Delph will continue to help Villa fight their relegation battle even if it means missing the birth.

"We have spoken about it and we know it's a possibility," Delph told the Birmingham Mail. "It could happen as one of the games is about to go on. But this is a crucial part of the season and if I'm down to play in the games, I need to be playing.

"Natalie appreciates the situation and is 100% behind me. I want to see my baby being born and hope it happens. Ideally, it will happen on a Wednesday."

Villa are currently three points above the drop.
