Moeen Ali stopped by border control officers

England cricketer Moeen Ali is stopped by UK border control officers as he returns to England from the World Twenty20 in India.

England cricketer Moeen Ali was stopped by UK border control officers as he returned from the World Twenty20 in India on Saturday.

The all-rounder was detained for 40 minutes upon arrival at Birmingham International Airport ahead of the start of the county cricket season.

Ali, who was born in Birmingham and is of Pakistani origin, complained on Twitter: "Have never been stopped at the airport when travelling with a team in uniform, but travel alone and get stopped for 40 minutes!! Joke."

According to The Independent, a Birmingham Airport spokesperson said that Ali had "exceeded his duty-free allowance" but declined to elaborate on why Ali had been stopped for questioning in the first place.

Ali was returning to England a week after his side lost to the West Indies in the last over of the final.
