Former England footballer Jimmy Greaves has vowed to keep "fighting" until he is 90 years old after surviving a severe stroke.
The 75-year-old left hospital on June 12, almost six weeks after suffering the attack.
Greaves, who is currently in a rehabilitation centre, has revealed that he may never get back to his best, but his speech and movement in his right leg is returning.
In an interview with the Sunday People, Greaves said: "I should be dead, but I'm here and I'm fighting fit. Now I want to live until I'm at least 90. Hopefully there's a few years left in me yet.
"I'm a long way from being back to my best and I don't know whether I can ever get back to it, but I'm determined to do everything I can. I'm a fighter.
"Every day is a new day. The doctors reckon after a year if something isn't working it'll never work."
The former striker played for Chelsea, AC Milan, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United during his career, and also scored 44 goals for England.
