Barack Obama watches USA match on board Air Force One

Barack Obama shares a photograph of himself watching the USA take on Germany in the World Cup.

United States president Barack Obama has tweeted a photograph of himself watching his country's World Cup defeat to Germany on board Air Force One.

The head of state watched Jurgen Klinsmann's side go down 1-0 to a Thomas Muller strike while travelling to Minneapolis on the aircraft.

The result proved inconsequential to the USA, who progressed to the last 16 of the competition on goal difference after beating Ghana and drawing with Portugal in their two previous matches.

USA will face Belgium in the next round.
