Prosecutor Peter Lewis has reportedly stepped down from his role in the new investigation into the Hillsborough disaster due to claims of a conflict of interest.
The families of the 96 Liverpool fans who died in 1989 raised concerns over Lewis's appointment due to his previous role as a prosecutor in the West Midlands.
According to the Daily Star, Lewis has left his role after replacing Director of Public Prosecutions Alison Saunders, who stepped down last month due to her past with the original investigation.
Officers from the West Midlands Police during the time of the tragedy are under investigation following the emergence of reports that police statements were fabricated to place blame on the Liverpool fans.
Fresh inquests are due to begin next year.
