Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera to face match-fixing trial?

Ander Herrera is expected to be one of 33 players asked to stand trial over an alleged match-fixing scandal involving Real Zaragoza and Levante.

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has been warned that he may stand trial over an alleged match-fixing scandal dating back to May 2011.

Herrera is expected to be one of 33 players called to the stand at a Spanish court later this year, along with Atletico Madrid ace Gabi.

The case, which refers to a match involving Levante and the 28-year-old's first club Real Zaragoza, is expected to last for around six months.

Zaragoza's ex-manager Javier Aguirre, sporting director Antonio Prieto and owner Agapito Iglesias - all of whom have since left the club - will also be summoned.

Reports in Spain suggest that as many as 42 people could face prison sentences ranging from six months to four years if found guilty.

Neither Herrera nor Gabi has been accused of any wrongdoing.
