A Manchester City supporter has appeared in court on a racially aggravated harassment charge after allegedly hurling abuse at Manchester United winger Ashley Young.

David Reeves, 24, is believed to have yelled "fucking black bastard" in Young's direction during United's 4-2 win over Manchester City at Old Trafford on April 12.

The football fan was arrested in the stadium after four people, as well as a police officer, claimed to hear Mr Reeves use the racist language, Trafford Magistrates Court heard.

According to the Daily Star, when asked by the court to take his hands out of his pockets, Mr Reeves, who has denied the charge, said: "Sorry, I've never been in this position before. I've got no idea what is going on.''

The City supporter will stand trial on July 30.
