Malcolm Glazer 'received violent threats during Manchester United takeover'

Manchester United's late owner Malcolm Glazer reportedly received violent threats during his 2005 takeover of the Premier League club.

Manchester United's late owner Malcolm Glazer reportedly received a number of violent threats during his acquisition of the Premier League club back in 2005.

The American billionaire, who passed away in May at the age of 85, was allegedly targeted after a number of United fans opposed his decision to buy the club.

According to the Daily Mail, in response to a Freedom of Information Act request from the Associated Press, the FBI have released more than 120 pages of documents which detail threatening phone calls that were made to the businessman.

It is believed that Glazer, who also owned the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, had his life threatened from a person with a British accent, who called the Buccaneers' headquarters back in 2005.

A number of similar incidents are said to have occurred via email during the takeover.

The Glazer family's majority stake in United is being run by Malcolm's sons.
