Gary Lineker backs Manchester United's Wayne Rooney to become TV pundit

Gary Lineker believes that Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney will become a TV pundit when he retires from football.

Former England footballer Gary Lineker has suggested that Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney will one day work as a football pundit on television.

Lineker, who anchors football highlights show Match of the Day, interviewed the England international in a behind-the-scenes documentary for the BBC.

Rooney is currently captain of both United and his country, but Lineker believes that the 29-year-old will not disappear from screens when he retires from the game.

According to the Daily Star, the TV host revealed that Rooney is "quite interested in the media".

Lineker added: "You can't be that quality of footballer with spatial awareness and on-pitch intelligence and be stupid."

Documentary Wayne Rooney: The Man Behind The Goals will be aired by the BBC on Monday.
