New York Yankees baseball legend and 13-time World Series champion Yogi Berra passes away at the age of 90.

American baseball legend Yogi Berra has died at the age of 90.

The 13-time World Series champion, who is believed to have inspired cartoon character Yogi Bear, passed away on Tuesday evening, the Yogi Berra Museum has confirmed.

The catcher spent the majority of his 19-year career playing for the New York Yankees and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972.

After retiring from playing, Berra, who was named Most Valuable Player three times in his career, became one of six men to guide teams to the World Series in both leagues as manager.

Berra took charge of the New York Mets and the Yankees during his career in management.
