World number one tennis player Novak Djokovic has bought a year's supply of donkey cheese for his chain of restaurants.

The rare delicacy, which is produced in his native Serbia, is believed to be in demand for £400 a pound and the 25-year-old has bought the entire 2013 output.

The manager of the cheese company in Zasavica Slobodan Simic told the Daily Mail: "It will save a lot of effort having to deal with various restaurants. With only one customer buying the lot we don't have to worry too much about salesmen. It is a great vote of confidence as well in what we do here."

Djokovic is due to open the chain of restaurants in Serbia and is believed to be hoping that the cheese, known as pule, will be the main attraction for his customers.
