Sky criticised over Adam Johnson report

Sky Sports is criticised for a remark made during its reporting of Adam Johnson's child sex trial.

Sky Sports has received criticism for a remark made during its reporting of the Adam Johnson child sex trial.

In a report on today's verdict, in which the footballer was found guilty of penetrating an underage girl with his fingers, correspondent Martin Brunt signed off with the line: "Adam Johnson's next football appearance could be for a prison team. Martin Brunt, Sky Sports News."

The Independent hit out at the broadcaster for the "wholly inappropriate remark", accusing the report of 'appearing to trivialise' the verdict, which could see Johnson handed a prison sentence of up to ten years.

Users of social media seemingly found humour in the comment, meanwhile, with one Twitter user declaring: "Sky Sports have no chill."

Johnson is due to be sentenced before the end of the month.
