Southend United striker Nile Ranger has been charged with conspiracy to defraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering, the Metropolitan Police have said.
The 25-year-old was allegedly involved in a scam involving a vulnerable person's bank details being taken in an attempt to access their savings, which was committed in February 2015.
Ranger, who joined the League One outfit in August before penning an extended contract earlier this month, is due to appear at Highbury Magistrates' Court on Wednesday afternoon.
Born in North London, Ranger spent time with Newcastle United and in the England Under-19s setup before joining Southend this year.
