Broken ankle ends Frankie Dettori's season

Frankie Dettori suffers a broken ankle at Nottingham that rules him out for the rest of the season.

Italian jockey Frankie Dettori has been ruled out for the rest of the season because of a broken ankle sustained at Nottingham today.

The 42-year-old was unseated from Eland Ally prior to the 32Red.com Handicap and taken to a hospital in Cambridge, near his home in Newmarket.

"He went to Cambridge Hospital and X-rays found that he had suffered a fractured ankle," Dettori's business manager Peter Burrell told PA.

"He was extremely disappointed on the phone and did not want to discuss it much more than that.

"It's an extremely painful injury. Sunday is out - as is the season."

Dettori was due to ride leading Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe fancy Treve at Longchamp on Sunday but has now been replaced by Thierry Jarnet.
