George North says that he feels "horrendous" after making a gesture to Australia's Will Genia before scoring a try in the British and Irish Lions Test victory.

British and Irish Lions wing George North has apologised for making a gesture while scoring a try against Australia last weekend.

The 21-year-old pointed to his opponent Will Genia just before touching down following a 60-metre run in the Lions' 23-21 victory in Brisbane.

"I got caught up in the emotion of the try," said North in a press conference. "Looking back, I feel horrendous for doing it now. Rugby's a gentleman's game and that shouldn't be involved in the game.

"It's very difficult to explain your emotions when you've scored a try. I know it was out of line with sportsmanship and rugby and feel terrible for that. I've had a lot of stick from the boys for doing that and am pretty sure it will go on for a while longer."

The Lions can win the series this weekend in Melbourne with a victory against Australia before the final Test.
