George North says that it is a "dream come true" to be picked for the British and Irish Lions' opening Test against Australia.

British and Irish Lions wing George North has revealed that it was "touch and go" as to whether he would be fit to face Australia on Saturday.

The Welsh international was a huge doubt for the opening Test against the Wallabies at the weekend after suffering a hamstring problem during the 64-0 win over Combined Country, which forced him to miss the games with Waratahs and Brumbies.

However, North has thanked the medical team for helping him through his problem and admits that it is a dream come true to be selected.

"It was all touch and go really but from minute one the support staff have been great," North told Sky Sports News. "I have put in a lot of hours and lot of rehab to get back here. It is awesome to be named in the Lions squad.

"Being named puts a smile on your face. It is a dream come true. You start off as a young boy in your head playing for the Lions with the boys on the park but when it comes to it, it is a lot of hard work to get here.

"It has been an exceptionally long season for the boys so to finish off with a three-Test series is epic."

The Lions make the trip to Brisbane to face Australia on Saturday.
