Sam Warburton ruled out through injury

British and Irish Lions captain Sam Warburton is ruled out of the side's opening tour match with a knee injury

British and Irish Lions captain Sam Warburton has been ruled out of the side's opening tour match through injury.

The Wales international has been struggling with a knee problem, which had forced him to miss training on Wednesday.

After being assessed, it was decided that the 24-year-old required more treatment on the injury, and he will be replaced as skipper for the game against Barbarians by Ireland's Paul O'Connell.

O'Connell has previously captained the Lions during their 2009 tour of South Africa.
