Scotland flanker John Hardie makes Edinburgh switch

Flanker John Hardie joins Edinburgh on a two-year contract after Scotland's exit from the Rugby World Cup.

Edinburgh have announced the arrival of Scotland flanker John Hardie on a two-year contract.

The 27-year-old was a free agent having run out his contract with New Zealand-based Super Rugby side The Highlanders.

Hardie was born in New Zealand, but qualifies to play for Scotland through his ancestry. He scored two tries in three matches at the Rugby World Cup and started the Dark Blues' last-gasp quarter-final defeat to Australia on Sunday.

"John has proved himself to be an excellent professional and his performances during the Rugby World Cup consolidated our belief that we would like him continuing his rugby in Scotland," said Scottish Rugby's director of rugby Scott Johnson.

Edinburgh have won all four of their games at the start of the Guinness Pro12 season.
