Eddie Jones open to England job

Eddie Jones admits that the state of the current England squad would not put him off becoming Martin Johnson's successor.

Former Australia rugby coach Eddie Jones has admitted that he would be open to becoming the next England boss after Martin Johnson's resignation.

The 41-year-old announced his departure from the national side yesterday, which has sparked speculation over his successor.

"You'd always be interested in coaching England," Jones told BBC Sport. "It has got a fantastic domestic competition, very, very good players and you have just got to get the right programme in place and they should be good enough to win the next World Cup.

"Over the last period of time England rugby has lost its way and you'd have to question the people in place now.

"That is the challenge of getting it right. If you get it right, the benefits are absolutely enormous. That is the challenge of it and that is the exciting part of it."

The former Aussie coach has joined a number of contenders for the England position.
