Kenny Logan: 'Sam Burgess selection is a risk'

England coach Stuart Lancaster is taking a risk by handing Sam Burgess a start against Wales, according to former Scotland wing Kenny Logan.

Former Scotland and Wasps wing Kenny Logan has warned England coach Stuart Lancaster that he is taking a risk by selecting Sam Burgess for Saturday's World Cup game against Wales.

Burgess is expected to be given the responsibility of replacing the injured Jonathan Joseph when the team for the Pool A game is confirmed tomorrow.

If, as expected, Joseph misses out with a chest injury, Logan believes that it is a big call to bring in Burgess, who has played just 112 minutes of Test rugby.

"Burgess is a phenomenal athlete and a world-class rugby league player, but rugby union is a different game and he's been fast tracked right to the top," Logan told talkSPORT.

"He came on at the weekend against Fiji and it's probably the best 30 minutes he has played, so he's under a lot of pressure now.

"If he's going to play at 12 and Brad Barritt is at 13, you've got two players who don't pass the ball that much, so you definitely know what sort of game England are going to play."

Henry Slade is the other option to play centre for England.
