Exeter Chiefs beat Gloucester Rugby 28-27 at Kingsholm.

Exeter Chiefs came from behind to defeat Gloucester Rugby 28-27 at Kingsholm this afternoon.

Fly-half Freddie Burns handed the home team an early lead by firing his penalty through the posts.

Craig Mitchell crossed over to score the first try of the game for Exeter, before Ignacio Mieres's conversion gave them a four-point lead over their hosts.

Matt Jess increased the deficit in the closing minutes of the first half by adding another try to their total, before Mieres's late penalty put them 12 points up at the break.

Burns opened the scoring after the restart by kicking his second penalty of the afternoon, but Mieres responded in kind to maintain their lead.

James Simpson-Daniel crossed the line to score Gloucester's first try of the game shortly before the hour, before Burns's extras reduced the deficit.

Moments later, the fly-half tied the score himself by scoring Gloucester's second try of the afternoon and then kicking them in front by a couple of points.

Substitute Nick Runciman added a third try in eight minutes for the hosts, before Burns made it three out of three for the game.

However, Gareth Steenson added three to Exeter's total in the closing stages, before converting a late Aly Muldowney try to escape on top.
