Brian O'Driscoll has said that Ireland's opening game of the Six Nations tournament was a must-win match.

Brian O'Driscoll has said that he is pleased with Ireland's winning start to the 2013 Six Nations tournament.

Ireland raced to a big lead against Wales at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium earlier this afternoon before the hosts staged a second-half comeback, but Ireland were able to hold on for a 30-22 victory.

The centre, who scored one of Ireland's three tries, told BBC Sport: "The first game is a must-win. Otherwise you are chasing your tail for the rest of the Championship. We started really well today.

"[Wales] have done a job on us the last three times. We came out of the blocks in the first half and played really well.

"They weren't going to be flat for the whole game and put it up to us in the second half. They were able to kick to the corners and build. They tied us down and got on the front foot."

Simon Zebo and Cian Healy also scored tries for Ireland.
