Result: Canada 23-23 Japan

Canada and Japan play out only the third draw in Rugby World Cup history, finishing 23-23 in Napier.

Canada and Japan played out only the third draw in the history of the Rugby World Cup with a 23-23 stalemate in Napier this morning.

Tries from Shota Horie and Kosuke Endo plus 13 points from the boot of James Arlidge had put Japan in front, but a late penalty from Canada's Ander Monro brought the sides level with just minutes to play.

Monro also crossed the line in the second half to add to tries from DTH Van der Merwe and Phil Mackenzie for Canada.

The two nations also drew when they faced off in the 2007 World Cup.

Japan sit bottom of the table having played all of their games, whereas Canada could still qualify if they beat New Zealand and Tonga beat France on Saturday.
