Leicester Tigers director of rugby Richard Cockerill is given a nine-match suspension after being found guilty of using abusive language towards match officials during the Premiership final.

Leicester Tigers director of rugby Richard Cockerill has been issued with a nine-match suspension by the Rugby Football Union, after being found guilty of a string of offences during the Premiership final.

Cockerill was ruled to be guilty of using obscene, inappropriate and/or unprofessional language and behaviour towards fourth official Stuart Terheege during the Twickenham showpiece in May, which saw Leicester beat Northampton Saints 37-17.

Although he pleaded not guilty to the offences Cockerill was ruled to be breach of RFU Rule 5.12 by a disciplinary panel, and will now be suspended from involvement during matches between September 7 to November 2.

The 42-year-old was also ordered to pay £500 costs, but has a right of appeal.

Leicester coaches Paul Burke and Geordan Murphy will take charge of their side's first nine Premiership matches next season if Cockerill fails to win any potential appeal.
