New Zealand fly-half Dan Carter has admitted that he is "surprised" by England's lack of progress in the past eight years.
Sir Clive Woodward led England to a 15-13 win over the All Blacks in 2003, but the world champions have won all nine meetings between the two sides since then.
"I'm surprised England haven't done more since 2003. They've shown the strength of their side only in patches since then," he told reporters.
"Maybe consistency is what's been lacking. They've got the players, so talent's not an issue. They can beat any side on their day."
Meanwhile, Carter is expected to be fit for the pair's clash at Twickenham on Saturday.
