Richie McCaw 'will put All Blacks first'

Richie McCaw says that he will put the best interests of New Zealand first before his own All Blacks career.

New Zealand captain Richie McCaw has said that he will quit the All Blacks if his form or desire to play dips before the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England.

The flanker played every minute of his team's Autumn International Test matches against Japan, France, England and Ireland, but the 32-year-old does not want to just hang on for the next tournament.

He told the Sunday News: "You've got to really want to be there, to enjoy it, and be excited by it.

"As long as I keep that desire, enjoyment and performance there, I'd love to be able to. If for any reason that changes, you've got to do the right thing for the team and yourself."

McCaw has played in 124 Tests for the All Blacks, including their 8-7 victory over France in the 2011 World Cup final.
