Aaron Smith signs New Zealand Rugby contract extension

All Blacks scrum-half Aaron Smith pens a four-year contract extension with New Zealand Rugby.

All Blacks scrum-half Aaron Smith has signed a contract extension with New Zealand Rugby until 2019.

The deal will see the 26-year-old play in his homeland for Super Rugby champions Otago Highlanders for the next four years.

Smith has won 38 caps for New Zealand since 2012.

"Knowing I'm contracted for the next four years allows me to focus on my rugby and there are some exciting challenges ahead for the All Blacks which I hope to be part of," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"Dunedin is my home and I wouldn't want to play my Super Rugby anywhere else. The Highlanders brotherhood is something pretty special and I can't wait for next season."

Smith made his debut for the Highlanders in 2011.
