Steve Diamond pleased with Sale Sharks progress

Steve Diamond says that Sale Sharks hit their target for the festive period by defeating Newcastle Falcons at Salford City Stadium last night.

Sale Sharks director of rugby Steve Diamond has said that his team have progressed well over the festive period following last night's 16-8 win over Newcastle Falcons.

A total of eight points over the past three games has seen the Sharks keep pressure on fourth-placed Harlequins, whom they trail by just three points.

"What we're after is steady improvement and keeping up our momentum, and that's what we've done with our results against London Irish and Leicester and now winning at Newcastle," Sky Sports News quotes the 47-year-old as saying.

"We set ourselves a target for the Christmas and New Year period and we've done well and I'm very pleased.

"Newcastle is a really hard place to come and win and to snatch an away victory is always good."

Sale face Worcester in the Amlin Challenge Cup in their next outing on January 10.
