Scott Williams upbeat despite Wales loss to Ireland

Stand-in Wales captain Scott Williams remains positive following the team's 35-21 defeat to Ireland in Cardiff.

Stand-in Wales captain Scott Williams has refused to get downbeat following the team's defeat to Ireland in Cardiff.

The Welsh were beaten 35-21 at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday as their preparations for the Rugby World Cup got off to a disappointing start.

However, with a handful of new faces in the starting lineup, Williams believes that the squad should not be too dejected by the result against a more seasoned Ireland.

"Ireland had a lot of experience and that showed in the end," he told BBC Sport. "I was happy with the way we finished the game. Our training has had a big focus on conditioning.

"It is the first time we have played together as a team and it was a big occasion. With some lads winning their first caps it was a little bit disappointing we didn't celebrate with a win."

Wales travel to Dublin to face Ireland in another Rugby World Cup warm-up fixture on August 29.
