Shane Williams shocked by Richard Hibbard axe for Wales

Shane Williams questions Warren Gatland's decision to cut hooker Richard Hibbard from the Wales training squad for the Rugby World Cup.

Former Wales wing Shane Williams has questioned the decision to cut hooker Richard Hibbard from the team's Rugby World Cup training squad.

The 31-year-old was released by coach Warren Gatland following the side's 35-21 defeat to Ireland.

Williams believes that Hibbard, who has won 38 caps for his country, should have been seriously considered for a place in the final squad.

"I thought that Richard Hibbard with his scrummaging strength and his physicality would have been a clear shot of being involved in the World Cup," he told BBC Sport. "That's one of the reasons I was shocked by his non-selection, so that again is very worrying."

Wales are back in action on August 29 when they face Ireland in Dublin for their second World Cup warm-up match.
