Leigh Halfpenny "delighted" with "important" win over France

Match-winner Leigh Halfpenny is "delighted" with Wales's 20-13 win over France in the Six Nations.

Wales full-back Leigh Halfpenny has said that today's victory over France was vital in keeping their Six Nations hopes alive.

Halfpenny kicked 15 points in their 20-13 win in Paris, and has praised his teammates' defensive efforts as they withstood France's intense pressure in the final 10 minutes.

He told BBC Sport: "We knew how important it was to come here and to win to keep us in the competition. We're absolutely delighted with the win, we knew how tough the challenge would be.

"The boys dug deep, especially in the last few minutes when there was a scrum five metres out from the line. The character to keep them out was what we knew we needed to bring to get a win here today."

Wales lost to England in week one, but they can still win the championship if they win both of their remaining games against Ireland and Italy, and other results go their way.

They next host Ireland, who have won their opening two games of the tournament, in Cardiff.
