Italy's Niccolo Campriani has won a gold medal in the men's 50m rifle three positions final this afternoon.
Campriani, who won a silver in the 10m rifle last week, took an almost unassailable lead of over five into the final round, and made no mistake by shooting a 9.0, giving him an Olympic record score of 1278.5 overall.
Team USA's Matthew Emmons suffered more heartbreak in the event having previously missed out on a medal in both 2004 and 2008, despite being in first position going into the final shot of both those events.
This time, he shot a 7.6 in the final round, while Korea's Kim Jonghyun shot a 10.4 to overtake him in second place and win silver, and Emmons at least picked up the bronze medal.
