Ronnie O'Sullivan wants to try darts-type atmosphere at snooker

Ronnie O'Sullivan wants to bring the raucous party atmosphere of a darts crowd to a snooker event.

Five-time snooker world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan has said that he wants to bring the atmosphere of the PDC World Darts Championship to his sport.

Interest in darts has increased exponentially in the last few years and O'Sullivan believes that part of the reason is the raucous atmosphere at Alexandra Palace.

Snooker is traditionally played in front of a hushed crowd, and O'Sullivan wants to try a tournament with the buzz of the darts.

After describing darts players as "the new rock stars", O'Sullivan asked his followers on Twitter: "By the way who would go and watch a snooker match played in a darts atmosphere?"

After a mixed response, O'Sullivan went on to say: "Ok we will do one and see how it goes, I will play (Judd) Trump first and see if it's what the public wants.

"I'd love to play in that atmosphere, and anyone who can't, go home."

O'Sullivan, 40, was recently awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours.
