Team England squash star Nick Matthew focused following knee injury

Team England squash star Nick Matthew insists that he is solely focused on performing in Glasgow following doubts that he may miss out due to knee surgery.

Team England squash star Nick Matthew has insisted that he is fully focused on performing at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games after recovering from a knee problem.

The 33-year-old, who was announced today as flag bearer for England at tomorrow's Opening Ceremony, underwent surgery last month.

There were serious doubts that the three-time world champion would attend the competition, but Matthew will begin the defence of his titles on Thursday.

"You're usually told that it's a six-week process and I've had just over four now so, it's been tight and up until now it's been about just getting here," Matthew told reporters.

"My mentality's had to change in the last week. It was about getting back on court and feeling good to being about 'I'm not just going to be happy just making it, I want to perform'. My attitude is like 'the job's not even started'.

"As hard as it was to make it, it's not started and I can leave that to one side and concentrate on the performance side."

Matthew won two gold medals at the Delhi Games in 2010.
