David Wilkie lauds "pretty special" Ross Murdoch

Former Olympic champion David Wilkie says he is not surprised that Ross Murdoch produced "something pretty special" by winning gold in the CWG on Thursday.

David Wilkie has claimed that he always knew Ross Murdoch was capable of "something pretty special" after he won gold for Scotland in the Commonwealth Games.

Murdoch edged out the much-fancied home favourite Michael Jamieson to win the 200m breaststroke on Thursday, but Wilkie, a former Scottish Olympic champion, says that he is unsurprised by the 20-year-old's heroics in the pool.

"I had a feeling Ross was going to do something pretty special," Wilkie told BBC Sport. "He looked very, very good in the heats, he looked confident, he swam well, his stroke was perfect."

Murdoch and Jamieson go head-to-head again in today's 100m breaststroke heats.
