Ryan Lochte grabs 200m individual medley world gold, GB's Daniel Wallace fourth

USA's Ryan Lochte storms to World gold in the 200m individual medley, while Great Britain's Daniel Wallace misses out in fourth.

The USA's Ryan Lochte has stormed to gold in the 200m individual medley at the World Championships in Kazan, while Great Britain's Daniel Wallace just missed out in fourth place.

It is a historic win for the 31-year-old as he becomes only the second athlete behind Australia's Grant Hackett to win four consecutive world titles.

It was a close contest in the 50m butterfly, but Lochte, who has won medals in his last consecutive six Championships, edged ahead in the backstroke leg, with Brazil's Thiago Pereira pushing him all the way.

In the grandstand freestyle finish, Lochte powered through and stormed ahead of the field to clock a winning time of 1:55.81, which is the best of the year so far.

Wallace touched the wall in 1:57.59, but it was not enough to medal as Pereira took silver and China's Wang Shun nabbed bronze.
