Jemma Lowe confident Wales can achieve swimming medal target

Jemma Lowe is confident that she and her Team Wales teammates can deliver on the six-medal target set for them.

Team Wales swimmer Jemma Lowe has expressed her confidence in her teammates to deliver on the lofty medal target set for them at the upcoming Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

The Commonwealths is the only major event that allows British athletes to represent their individual countries and despite having a small squad, the Welsh team have been set a goal of six medals.

Lowe has competed at the last two Games in Melbourne and Delhi, winning a 100m butterfly bronze in the Indian capital four years ago.

She is confident that she can emulate her Delhi success and lead a strong Welsh performance.

"[Six medals] is definitely doable as long as everyone gets out the swims that they want," she told Sports Mole at the London Aquatics Centre today.

"I think we can definitely reach that target and maybe go one better. If we do it will be brilliant, especially for the young guys coming up."

A butterfly specialist, Lowe achieved individual sixth-place finishes at the Olympic Games in both 2008 and 2012. She also just missed out on a medal in the 4x100m medley relay in Beijing.
