Ireland's Chloe Aboud misses out in taekwondo prelims

Ireland's Chloe Aboud suffers defeat in the preliminary round of the women's -67kg category at the European Games.

Chloe Aboud has bowed out to Elin Johansson at the preliminary stage of the women's -67kg category at the European Games.

The Ireland representative began slowly at the Crystal Hall in Baku and found herself facing a 4-0 deficit after the end of the opening two minutes.

That soon became 8-0 at the beginning of the second, and although she finally registered a point on the board, she trailed the Swede 11-2 heading into the final session.

Aboud rallied to record four successive points but it was too little too late as Johansson sealed victory with a defensive head kick in the closing seconds.
