Novak Djokovic says that he "loves" the Rod Laver Arena court following his 6-2 6-4 7-5 victory over Paul-Henri Mathieu.

Novak Djokovic has said that it is "great to be back" at the Australian Open following his first-round victory over Paul-Henri Mathieu.

The world number one - and defending champion - cruised to a straight-sets win on Rod Laver, setting up a second-round match with America's Ryan Harrison.

"I thought it was a really good match," said Djokovic. "We both served well in the second and third [sets], but I managed to hold on and play well when I needed to.

"It's a two-week long event, it's the first day, everybody's obviously excited. For me, it was great to be back here.

"I love this court and hopefully I can continue playing well."

Djokovic is bidding for his fourth Australian Open title.
